God’s Presence in Garden City
MITCH THOMSONOne value of Garden City Church is “presence.” Mitch Thomson, church planter of GCC in Edenvale, South Africa, is very future-oriented, so living in the present moment comes a little less naturally to him than others. Before Mitch and his wife Amber’s arrival to the States and TVC, Mitch had positive influences encouraging him to be present and committed to his current season and a daily calling rather than a future calling.
Desiring to be present and active in TVC, Mitch and Amber began serving a Home Group with childcare, where their convictions about shepherding were affirmed and strengthened. Eventually, Dave Lee, pastor of Icon Church, asked Mitch to consider being an elder at Icon. Mitch and Amber felt this would be another opportunity to step into the ministry of presence by now sharing the responsibility of caring for the flock of Icon Church.
This season of training and equipping as a TVC church planter has prepared Mitch to bring this slow and consistent presence back to Johannesburg, Edenvale, and the surrounding cities.
